Desk dialogue

A conversation with a foreign visitor, no interpreter on staff

Two tablets and two microphones at the desk. The guest picks their language, staff speak their own — everyone reads the dialogue on their own screen, in their own language.

What a desk session looks like

Starting the conversation

At the start of the shift, staff pick their language — it holds for the whole day. The guest approaches their tablet and picks their language once. The session begins, each person speaks into their own microphone.

During the conversation

The system knows who said what by microphone, not by guessing voices. If both speak at once, both lines are still recorded and shown in order. If there's a long silence, the system just quietly asks the operator whether the conversation is over — the session doesn't end on its own.

Why the desk chooses this over an interpreter on shift

Two microphones — two channels, no confusion about who's who
Each side reads in their own language, on their own screen
The guest's language is chosen once per session — simple and predictable
The staff member's language is set for the shift — same mode all day
A pause doesn't end the session — the operator decides, not a timer

After the visit — an archive, not just memory

  • The audio for both channels is saved
  • The text stays bilingual — original and translation
  • The record helps with disputes and quality control
  • The archive also helps train new staff

Set it up and forget it

Two tablets and two USB microphones are installed at the desk, connected to the same server. Same license and platform as the hall and meetings — just a different mode, built for one-on-one dialogue.

Everything's included — there's nothing extra to buy.
